MOMBASA, Kenya Aug 9 (Reuters) - As Kenyans await the outcome of Tuesday's election, they are wondering if Martha Karua might be their first female vice president, becoming the highest ranking woman in the history of a country where female candidates are often physically attacked.

NAIROBI, Aug. 8 (Xinhua) -- Kenya's sitting deputy president William Samoei Ruto, who is contesting the presidency under Kenya Kwanza (Kenya First) Alliance in the Kenya 2022 general elections scheduled for Tuesday, was born on Dec. 21, 1966.

Like any other rural child born when Kenya had just gained independence from British colonialists, Ruto went to public primary and secondary schools even as he assisted his parents to carry out several chores including herding goats and tending to the farm.

Turkey donates grain milling machines to farming community in Kenya

Kenya Heightens Security Ahead Of Aug Polls

NAIROBI, Jul 25 (NNN-KBC) – Kenyan police said, they have heightened security ahead of the general elections slated for Aug 9.

Hilary Mutyambai, inspector-general of Police, told journalists in Nairobi, the capital of Kenya, that, a total of 150,000 officers drawn from partner securities agencies, will be deployed during the elections, to ensure a safe environment for all to cast their votes.

“Formed police units have also been deployed across the country, to offer tactical support to general duty officers before, during and after the general elections,” Mutyambai said.

At least 30 passengers killed in road accident in Kenya

NAIROBI, July 25 (Xinhua) -- At least 30 passengers were killed and several others injured on Sunday evening when their bus fell off a bridge and plunged into a river along the highway in Tharaka Nithi, Kenya, local police said.

The bus, traveling from Meru town to the coastal city of Mombasa, plunged into the Nithi River about 40 meters below along the Meru-Nairobi highway at around 6:40 p.m. (1540 GMT), Eastern Regional Police Commander Rono Bunei said on Monday.

Kenya, UNICEF deploy therapeutic food to avert childhood malnutrition

NAIROBI, July 12 (Xinhua) -- Kenya's Ministry of Health and the UN children's fund (UNICEF) on Tuesday commenced deployment of ready-to-use therapeutic food to four drought-stricken counties to help avert severe malnutrition among children.

The consignment of highly nutritious food commodities valued at 30 million shillings (253,915 U.S. dollars) is part of joint efforts to mitigate the adverse impact of the current drought cycle on children's health and nutritional security, UNICEF said in a joint statement issued in Nairobi, the Kenyan capital.

Kenya, WHO launches hub for handling health emergencies in Africa

NAIROBI, July 10 (Xinhua) -- The World Health Organization (WHO) in partnership with the Kenyan government Saturday launched the Health Emergency Hub to enhance response to health emergencies in Africa.

A statement from the WHO released in Nairobi, the Kenyan capital said the hub will lay the foundation for a robust response to health emergencies including disease outbreaks unfolding in the continent.
