New Delhi, Oct 23 (PTI) The Delhi High Court Wednesday dismissed a PIL challenging the AAP government's proposed odd-even road rationing scheme which is expected to be in force from November 4-15.

A bench of Chief Justice D N Patel and Justice C Hari Shankar declined to entertain the plea as the petitioner had not made any representation to the government before approaching the court.

The court also said that the petition was filed without the details of the scheme which is yet to be notified by the Delhi government.

Chennai, Oct 21 (PTI) Landslips have been reported in some parts of Nilgiris district, as the Regional weather office here on Monday predicted heavy rainfall to occur over Tamil Nadu during the next five days with the North East Monsoon becoming active.

Landslips were reported at least in 10 places in Nilgiris district following rains during the last two days, particularly in Coonoor, disrupting movement of vehicles in the morning, officials said.

However, operations to clear the debris are going on a war footing, they said.

Kanpur: In view of the increasing level of air pollution the district administration has decided to confirm the causes and the exact condition of the air pollution in different localities. 

The District Magistrate Vijay V Pant has asked the Uttar Pradesh Pollution Control Board regional officer to conduct a test of the air pollution level in prominent localities.

For this purpose, he suggested bringing in use installed pollution measuring gadgets under the Smart City project.

New Delhi, Oct 16 (PTI) Many areas in the Delhi-National Capital Region recorded air quality in the "very poor" category on Wednesday morning, with particulate matter less than 10 micrometers in diameter being the primary pollutant.

Delhi's overall Air Quality Index (299) also bordered "very poor" levels. On Tuesday, it stood at 270 at 4 pm.

Seventeen of the 37 air quality monitoring stations in the national capital recorded the overall AQI in the "very poor" category, according to data of the Central Pollution Control Board.

NAGANO, Japan (NNN-AGENCIES) — Thousands of troops and rescue workers were sent in here on Sunday to save stranded residents and fight floods caused by one of the worst typhoons to hit the country in recent history.

At least 30 people were killed in the typhoon that left vast sections of towns under water, CNA quoted public broadcaster NHK saying. Another 15 were missing and 177 injured by Typhoon Hagibis, which paralysed Tokyo on Saturday and dumped record levels of rain around Japan. About 100,000 homes were left without power.

TOKYO, Oct 13 (NNN-NHK) – Ten people have died, and around 100 people injured, as of 10:30 a.m. local time (0130 GMT) today (Sunday), as Typhoon Hagibis ripped through Japan, including the Tokyo metropolitan area, with many rivers overflowing into residential areas across a wide area of the country.

Meanwhile, 14 people are missing across the country, according to a Kyodo News tally, based on information provided by rescuers and other authorities. The number of the missing is 15 from an NHK tally.

Frankfurt Am Main, Oct 11 (AFP/PTI) Germany's federal transport authority KBA has ordered Daimler to recall hundreds of thousands of diesel vehicles for breaking emissions rules, the auto giant said Friday.

"We estimate that the recall will concern a six-digit figure," it said, adding that it will "cooperate with the authorities".

The KBA has ordered the recall of successive waves of Daimler vehicles in recent years as it has uncovered excessive emissions but the company has always contested involvement in the so-called "dieselgate" scandal that broke in 2015.

New Delhi, Oct 12 (PTI) Women will be exempted from the odd-even road rationing scheme which is set to return in the national capital for the third time from November 4-15, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal announced on Saturday.

Unlike previous occasions, privately owned CNG vehicles will this time not be exempted, he said.

"Women driving alone, cars having all women as occupants and women accompanied by children aged less than 12 years will be exempted," he said.

New Delhi, Oct 10 (PTI) Delhi recorded poor air quality on Thursday for the first time this season, the Central Pollution Control Board said.

The Air Quality Index, based on 33 air quality monitoring centres, was at 211. AQI between 201 to 300 is considered as poor.

New Delhi, Oct 7 (PTI) The Supreme Court on Monday restrained authorities from cutting anymore trees in Mumbai's Aarey to set up a Metro car shed.

A special bench comprising justices Arun Mishra and Ashok Bhushan said it will have to examine the entire thing and posted the matter for hearing on October 21 before its forest bench.

"Don't cut anything now," the bench said.

The felling of trees is being opposed by green activists and local residents.
