India: Uzbek woman raped by three men in Delhi

New Delhi, Aug 12 (PTI) A 31-year-old woman from Uzbekistan has alleged that she was beaten up and raped by three men inside a car in southwest Delhi's Vasant Kunj area, police said on Monday.

The alleged incident took place on Saturday, they said.

In her complaint, the woman has named the three men and claimed she knew them in person, police added.

India: Rahul says will visit J&K, don't need Guv's aircraft

New Delhi, Aug 13 (PTI) Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday accepted Governor Satya Pal Malik's 'invitation' to visit Jammu and Kashmir but said he did not need an aircraft.

Gandhi said he and other opposition leaders would visit Jammu and Kashmir and urged Malik to allow them the freedom to meet people, and soldiers.

India: Manmohan Singh files RS nomination papers from Rajasthan

Jaipur, Aug 13 (PTI) Former prime minister Manmohan Singh filed nomination papers for the bypoll to Rajya Sabha from Rajasthan on Tuesday.

Singh filed four sets of nomination papers in the chamber of returning officer in Rajasthan Assembly.

He expressed gratitude to the Congress party for nominating him and expressed condolence for BJP's Madan Lal Saini, following whose death the seat got vacant in June.

Indian Govt may permit 100 pc FDI in contract manufacturing

New Delhi, Aug 11 (PTI) The government is working on a proposal to allow 100 per cent FDI in contract manufacturing with a view to attract overseas investments, sources said.

According to the existing foreign investment policy, 100 per cent foreign direct investment (FDI) is permitted in the manufacturing sector under the automatic route. A manufacturer is also allowed to sell products manufactured in India through wholesale and retail channels, including through e-commerce, without government's approval.

India's coal import rises 29 pc to 24 MT in June

New Delhi, Aug 11 (PTI) The country's coal imports increased by 28.7 per cent to 24.14 million tonnes in June on the back of softening of non-coking coal prices in the international markets.

The country had imported 18.75 million tonnes of coal in the corresponding month of the previous fiscal, according to a provisional compilation by mjunction services, based on monitoring of vessels' positions and data received from shipping companies.

India: People of Kashmir imprisoned in their own homes: Yechury

New Delhi, Aug 12 (PTI) CPI(M) General Secretary Sitaram Yechury on Monday alleged that the people of Kashmir have been kept "imprisoned" in their own homes and warned the government that the impact of changing Jammu and Kashmir's status would be felt in other states with special status.

While greeting people on the occasion of Eid al-Adha, Yechury, who along with CPI general secretary had been denied entry into Srinagar on Friday, said he still didn't know the condition of his party colleagues in Kashmir.

India: Metro employee commits suicide; streams it live on FB

New Delhi, Aug 11 (PTI) An employee of the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation allegedly committed suicide on Sunday by hanging himself in his rented house here and streamed the act live on Facebook, police said.

The victim, Shubhankar Chakraborty (27), hailed from North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal, they said.

Indian envoy to Pakistan Ajay Bisaria returns

New Delhi, Aug 11 (PTI) Indian High Commissioner to Pakistan Ajay Bisaria has returned to India, days after Islamabad expelled him following its decision to downgrade diplomatic ties over the withdrawal of special status to Jammu and Kashmir.

Sources said Bisaria is back in Delhi as Pakistan did not heed to India's request to review its decision to downgrade diplomatic ties.

India: 46 arrested NC leaders, prisoners shifted from J-K to UP jail

Srinagar, Aug 11 (PTI) National Conference leader and former minister Ali Mohammad Sagar, who was arrested a few days ago in Jammu and Kashmir, was on Sunday shifted to a jail in Uttar Pradesh, officials said.

Sagar is the first mainstream political leader being sent out of Jammu and Kashmir as part of a government plan to shift prisoners to jails outside the state.

He has been shifted to a jail in Bareilly in Uttar Pradesh, an official said.

India: CBSE hikes Class 10, 12 exam fees

New Delhi, Aug 11 (PTI) The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has increased the fees of Class 10 and Class 12 board examinations by up to Rs 1,150, the first hike in the last five years, according to board officials.

The fees for general category students for both Class 10 and 12 have been doubled from Rs 750 to Rs 1,500 for five subjects.
