Chinese companies invited to set up drone industry in special technology zones in Pakistan

BEIJING, July 27 (APP): Pakistan Ambassador to China, Moin ul Haque on Thursday invited the Chinese drone manufacturers to move in Pakistan and set up unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) / drone industry and production units in the special technology zones which were being set up in the country.

The present government is offering special incentives and tax exemptions with a focus on civil application of drones, he said while addressing the China-Pakistan Conference on “Building a viable drone industry in Pakistan” held in Pakistan Embassy Beijing.

HONG KONG, July 27 (Reuters) - Global investors are increasingly choosing to bypass China's markets in favour of other emerging countries that are either gaining from the geopolitical and growth risks stalking the world's second-biggest economy or are far removed from them.

BEIJING, Jul 25 (APP): The China-funded New Gwadar International Airport, the flagship project under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), is likely to be inaugurated soon, Commercial Counselor, Pakistan Embassy Beijing, Ghulam Qadir said on Tuesday.

A high-powered Chinese delegation will fly to Pakistan to participate in the inauguration ceremony, he told APP.
Launched in 2019, the $230-million project fully funded by the Chinese government is located in the Gurandani, 26 km east of Balochistan’s Gwadar city.

China replaces foreign minister Qin after one-month absence

BEIJING, July 25 (Reuters) - China named veteran diplomat Wang Yi as its new foreign minister on Tuesday, removing former rising star Qin Gang after a mysterious one-month absence from duties barely half a year into the job.

Qin, 57, a former aide to President Xi Jinping and envoy to the US, took over the ministry in December but has not been seen in public since June 25 when he met visiting diplomats in Beijing.

Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba says it will not sell shares in Ant’s buyback program

HONG KONG (AP) — Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba says it does not plan to sell any shares in its one-third shareholding in financial technology company Ant Group because it wants to retain its stake in an “important strategic partner.”

Alibaba Group Holdings said in a filing Sunday that it will not participate in Ant’s share buyback program. It allows shareholders to sell back up to 7.6% of their holdings at an unspecified price that values the company at 567.1 billion yuan ($78.8 billion).

China: Bullet train designed for Hangzhou Asian Games unveiled in China

BEIJING, July 22 (APP): A Fuxing bullet train specially designed for the Hangzhou Asian Games rolled off the production line in Changchun, northeast China’s Jilin Province.

It will run between Hangzhou, the host city of the 19th Asian Games, and the five co-host cities of Ningbo, Wenzhou, Jinhua, Shaoxing, and Huzhou in east China’s Zhejiang Province during the event, CGTN reported on Saturday.

The Asian Games-themed Fuxing intelligent electric multiple unit (EMU) consists of eight cars with a capacity of 578 passengers and can reach a speed of 350 kilometers per hour.

China: PIA passengers can fly to 16 Chinese cities via Beijing

BEIJING, July 22 (APP): Passengers traveling by Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) can now fly between Pakistan and 16 captivating cities in China via Beijing in partnership with Air China.

The Chinese cities include Guangzhou, Shanghai, Wuhan, Chengdu, Chongqing, Changchun, Hangzhou, Harbin, etc, an official of PIA told APP on Saturday.

The national flag carrier has also offered a 20 percent discount for students on flights between Pakistan and China.

Hong Kong court to decide whether to ban broadcast and distribution of protest song

HONG KONG (AP) — A Hong Kong court will hand down a closely-watched decision over whether to ban the broadcast and distribution of “Glory to Hong Kong,” a protest song after the government asked it to do so in the name of national security.

The song was written during the 2019 anti-government protests and its lyrics call for democracy and liberty. But it has been mistakenly played at several international sporting events instead of China’s national anthem, “March of the Volunteers.” The decision is expected next Friday.
