Israel deports MEP after denying entry to occupied Palestinian territories

22 Feb 2023; MEMO: Israel prevented a member of the European parliament from entering the occupied Palestinian territories on Monday, and then deported her to Spain.

Ana Miranda MEP landed at Ben Gurion Airport late on Monday. The international airport also serves the occupied Palestinian territories. She was with a delegation of MEPs who are involved in relations with Palestine.

EU must step up military support for Ukraine, says foreign policy chief

19 Feb 2023; MEMO: The EU should quickly increase and accelerate its military support to Ukraine, the bloc's foreign policy chief said on Sunday, Anadolu reports.

"All the European leaders here said yesterday that Russia cannot win this war, that Ukraine has to prevail," Josep Borrell told the Munich Security Conference.

Arab-European working group to revive peace efforts in Middle East

Belgium: EU includes Russia into tax haven blacklist

BRUSSELS, February 14. /TASS/: The European Union has included Russia into the list of countries viewed as tax havens, the EU Council said in its statement released on Tuesday.

"The EU continues to promote fair tax competition and address harmful tax practices. The Council today decided to add British Virgin Islands, Costa Rica, Marshall Islands and Russia to the EU list of non-cooperative jurisdictions for tax purposes," the EC Council said.

Ukraine seeks warplanes at NATO talks, allies fret over ammo

BRUSSELS (AP) — Ukraine on Tuesday renewed its appeal to Western countries for fighter jets to help frustrate Moscow’s invasion, but the United States and its NATO allies and partners are more concerned about Kyiv’s needs for large amounts of ammunition as the war with Russia is set to enter its second year.

Ahead of the meeting of the Ukraine contact group at NATO headquarters, Ukraine made its requirements clear. Defense Minister Oleksiy Reznikov, when asked what military aid his country is seeking now, showed reporters an image of a fighter jet.

EU expects Egypt to deliver high volumes of LNG

14 Feb 2023; MEMO: The European Union expects Egypt to maintain "relatively high volumes" of liquefied natural gas (LNG) deliveries to Europe, EU Energy Commissioner Kadri Simson said yesterday.

Speaking to Reuters on the sidelines of an energy conference in Egypt, Simson said: "Now we have to solve some of the bottleneck issues."

NATO Secretary General: incidents with balloons over U.S. form part of pattern: Belgium

BRUSSELS, Feb 13 (Reuters) - Recent incidents regarding balloons shot down by the United States, which suspects they are surveillance balloons from China, form part of a pattern which highlights the need for NATO to be vigilant, said NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg.

"What we saw over the United States is part of a pattern where China and also Russia are increasing surveillance activities on NATO allies," Stoltenberg told reporters on Monday.

Belgium: EU agrees tougher rules for irregular migrants

BRUSSELS, Feb 10 (NNN-AGENCIES) — European Union (EU) leaders have agreed on tougher rules aimed at making it easier to expel asylum-seekers whose refugee applications are denied, European Commission chief Ursula von der Leyen said.

The measures are a response to increasing European concern over rising irregular immigration that has become a hot-button issue in several member countries.

That problem is “a European challenge that requires a European response,” EU leaders said in a final document at the end of a 16-hour summit looking at that and other topics.
