Burkina Faso says expels 3 French diplomats for "subversive activities"

OUAGADOUGOU, April 18 (Xinhua) -- Three French diplomats have been declared "persona non grata" in Burkina Faso "for subversive activities," according to a note released by the Burkina foreign ministry on Thursday.

The note to the French embassy in Burkina Faso, dated Tuesday, said the three diplomats were ordered to leave the country within 48 hours.

The three diplomates were identified as Gwenaielle Habouzit, and two political counsellors, Herve Fournier and Guillaume Reisacher, according to the note.

Xi holds talks with Indonesia's president-elect

BEIJING, April 1 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Xi Jinping held talks with President-elect of the Republic of Indonesia and Great Indonesia Movement Party General Chairman Prabowo Subianto, who is on a visit to China, in Beijing on Monday.

Xi congratulated Prabowo on winning the election and asked Prabowo to relay sincere greetings and best wishes to President Joko Widodo.

DAKAR, Jan. 21 (Xinhua) -- Senegalese Constitutional Council on Saturday evening announced the final list of 20 candidates for the presidential election scheduled for Feb. 25.

Only Karim Wade, the son of former President Abdoulaye Wade, was dropped from the provisional list of 21 candidates published on Jan. 13 on the grounds that his "candidacy is inadmissible," according to a document of the council.

Incumbent Prime Minister Amadou Ba and his two predecessors -- Idrissa Seck and Mahammed Boun Abdallah Dionne -- are on the final list.

Zimbabwe to declare 279 missing Cyclone Idai victims dead

HARARE, Jan. 13 (Xinhua) -- The High Court of Zimbabwe is set to declare 279 people who went missing after Cyclone Idai hit the country in 2019, state media reported on Saturday.

This follows a class action instituted by Attorney General Virginia Mabhiza, which has not been opposed by anyone.

Cyclone Idai hit Zimbabwe in mid-March 2019 and caused massive damage to infrastructure and crops as floods swept away scores of people.

Areas that were mainly affected were the southeastern districts of Chipinge and Chimanimani in Manicaland Province.

Chinese medical teams lauded for advancing healthcare in Tanzania

DAR ES SALAAM, Jan. 10 (Xinhua) -- The government of Tanzania on Tuesday thanked the Chinese government for dispatching medical teams to help improve healthcare for people in the East African country.

Over the last six decades, more than 1,500 members of the Chinese medical team have been dispatched to Tanzania, said Paschal Ruggajo, director of Curative Services in the Ministry of Health, stressing that they have saved the lives of more than 20 million Tanzanians suffering from complicated ailments and have helped address various technological gaps in local hospitals.
