Pakistan’s Musharraf Sentenced To Death

ISLAMABAD, Dec 18 (NNN-APP) – A special court in Pakistan, handed the death sentence to former President, Pervez Musharraf, on charges relating to the imposition of extra-constitutional emergency in Nov, 2007, according to local media reports.

A three-member bench of the special court delivered a short verdict in the case, in the absence of Musharraf, finding him guilty of abrogation of the constitution, under article 6 of Pakistan’s constitution among others, local media reported, adding that, two judges were in favour of the death sentence, while one was against it.

Musharraf is currently living in the United Arab Emirates and his lawyers say he is seriously sick.

The special court issued notices to Musharraf to appear to record his statement, but he failed to return to the country.

Special Assistant to the Prime Minister, on Information and Broadcasting, Firdous Ashiq Awan said, the government will review legal aspects of the judgement and Prime Minister, Imran Khan, is likely to consult legal experts on Wednesday (today).
