CAIRO, Jul 19 (NNN-MENA) – Egypt’s Health Ministry announced yesterday that, some villagers in Upper Egypt’s province of Qena have tested positive for the dengue virus.
The dengue fever cases were reported in the Al-Ilayqat village of Qena Province last week, the ministry said in a statement.
So far, no death has been reported from the mosquito-borne virus, as the symptoms of the patients, who were treated at home, were mild, it said.
“The symptoms usually last two to seven days and are responsive to treatment with fever reducers,” it noted, adding, some cases in Qena are related to similar cases in the Red Sea province.
Dengue fever cases are found in more than 100 countries worldwide, with about 100 to 400 million people being infected annually, said the ministry.
Most people who caught the dengue fever show mild symptoms, such as headache, muscle and joint pains, nausea, swollen glands, and skin rash, according to the World Health Organisation.
