India: Kanpur's Gutaya crossing upto Rawatpur square faces jam

Kanpur: Auto-tempo drivers turned the GT Road from Gol Chauraha towards Kalyanpur side as a parking and stand.

The Additional CP (Traffic) Rahul Mithai has said that If the situation does not improve within two days, action will be taken against the traffic inspector concerned.

If you are going or returning from Kalyanpur side on this road you will have to struggle through the crowd of auto-tempo drivers standing randomly on the road between Gutaya Crossing to Rawatpur Square.

This crossing is the place where a large number of auto-tempo traffic occupies the entire road in the morning and evening also.

Alleged illegal stands and parking lots have been made on the road resulting in the 60 feet wide road into 20 feet. It takes 10 to 15 minutes for other drivers to cover a distance of just 250 to 300 meters.

Following the Chief Minister's orders, the police launched a campaign against the illegal stand and got the encroachment removed.

The commissioner and the municipal corporation also jointly constituted a mobile squad to work against encroachment.

Claims were also made to decide the action against the outpost in charge in the event of encroachment again, but nothing happened.

In spite of deployment of traffic police personnel the chaos due to jam does not subside. The challans against the bikes and scooty but the auto-tempo drivers are driven away with sticks, as onlookers say.
