India: Cars, bikes gutted in fire at mattress factory in Kanpur's Naubasta area

Kanpur: A massive fire broke out in a foam mattress manufacturing factory in Devki Nagar under the Naubasta police station area here on Wednesday.

Soon the fire took on a formidable form that caused chaos in the area. The people of the area tried to control the fire but were not successful.

As soon as the information reached, about eight fire tenders reached the spot. The fire was brought under control after hours of effort.

Sanu, a resident of Babupurwa, was reported to be the owner of the factory in Devki Nagar.

There was a short circuit in the rooftop tower on Wednesday morning. That's why the fire broke out in the upper floor room.

Two workers working at the time ran outside and tried to control the fire with the help of locals.

But the fire had assumed a formidable form and engulfed the entire building. This caused three cars and two motorcycles parked below to be gutted. Goods worth lakhs were reportedly destroyed in the fire.

According to the fire brigade personnel, the fire spread due to the chemical used in the making of mattresses. Possibly the fire extinguishers were not placed inside the factory.

DCP South Sanjeev Tyagi said how was the factory operating in a densely populated area. Whether it is illegal or not, will be investigated.

What were the arrangements for extinguishing the fire? This will also be included in the investigation. Action will be taken after the investigation.
