25 May 2021; MEMO: Egyptian Higher Council of Universities yesterday said it would exempt Palestinian students from the occupied Gaza Strip coming to study in country's public universities from tuition fees.
"Palestinian students coming from Gaza to study in the Egyptian government universities will be exempt from the second installment of the university tuition fees for the current academic year," the body said in a statement, adding that it would support the enclave's higher education institutions with "all the needs of faculty members and the necessary equipment."
Higher Education Minister, Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, pointed out that the council would provide "all forms of educational and research support to the Palestinian state," stressing that it would also offer "all the necessary facilities and support to Palestinian students studying in Egyptian universities."
"All universities and institutes declared a state of maximum readiness in preparation for the end-of-year exams that would be held during the month of June and end in the beginning of July," Abdel Ghaffar said.
The move comes as part of the Egyptian government's plans to support the Palestinian people following Israel's 11-day assault on the Strip which killed over 270 people, including 67 children, and injured thousands more.
