05 May 2021; MEMO: The Secretary of the Egyptian Parliament's Manpower Committee, MP Abdel Fattah Mohamed, said he has submitted a bill requiring the dismissal of public sector employees with links to the Muslim Brotherhood, local media reported.
The lawmaker said the draft law stipulates that if "following investigations" a civil servant is found to be a member of the Muslim Brotherhood "terrorist group" or to sympathise with it, he/she will be permanently dismissed from duty, the Al-Shorouk newspaper reported.
According to the paper, Mohamed said the concerned authorities will participate in investigating the employees, calling on the private sector to also search for Muslim Brotherhood elements.
Secretary of the Parliament's Housing and Public Utilities Committee, MP Amin Masoud, said he had also prepared a draft amendment to the Civil Service Law aimed at achieving the same goal.
Egypt has classified the Muslim Brotherhood as a terrorist group, after overthrowing the country's first democratically elected president, the late Mohamed Morsi who stemmed from the movement, in a bloody military coup in 2013.
