India: Sismau nullah tapped, built in 1892

KANPUR: 126-year-old Sisamau Nullah has been tapped. A report to this effect has been submitted to the Union minister Nitin Gadkari by Jal Nigam. This will make available clear water to the bathers at ghats viz., Rani Ghat, Bhairon Ghat, Magzine Ghat and Hospital Ghat. Informing of this step, V.V. Pant, district magistrate, said that whatever problems prevailed so far was removed now. The tapping report has already been sent to the state government.

About 14% part in polluting the sacred river was played by Sisamau Nullah since the year 1892. As much as 14 crore thousand litres of sewage was directly falling into the river. As many as 40 localities were linked with this nullah. With the completion of the tapping, sewage pumped by Bhairon Ghat pumping station has been diverted to sewage effluent treatment plant in Jajmau. A total amount of 63 crore rupees has been spent in the work.

Tapping of Parmiapurwa Ghat and Guftar Ghat nullahs are in progress. Muir Mill Nullah, Dabka Nullah, and Nawabganj nullah have been already tapped.
