Israel: Gaza violence intensifies as Jerusalem clashes resume

TEL AVIV, Israel (AP) — Israel’s air force and Palestinian militants traded fire across the Gaza frontier early Thursday as clashes erupted again at Jerusalem’s most sensitive holy site, worsening an escalation that has been eerily similar to the lead-up to last year’s Israel-Gaza war.

Israel to provide Ukraine with protective gear

21 April 2022; MEMO: Israel will provide Ukraine with protective gear for its rescue and emergency organisations, local media reported.

Defence Minister Benny Gantz spoke to his Ukrainian counterpart, Oleksiy Reznikov, and discussed international and Israeli efforts to end the Russian war in Ukraine, the reports said.

According to Gantz, Israel will send protective gear such as helmets and flak jackets to Ukraine for rescue and emergency organisations to use.

Police restrict Israeli ultra-nationalists’ Jerusalem march

JERUSALEM (AP) — Police appear to have prevented hundreds of ultra-nationalist Israelis from marching around predominantly Palestinian areas of Jerusalem’s Old City on Wednesday, an event that served as one of the triggers of last year’s Israel-Gaza war.

Police set up large roadblocks outside the Old City walls, closing the main road leading down to Damascus Gate, the epicenter of last year’s unrest. Bottled up, the marchers waved Israeli flags, chanted and sang.

Mansour Abbas, chairman of the Ra’am party, told the Israeli-Arab A-Shams Radio that his party, which has four seats in the 60-seat coalition, was mulling resigning, in protest of the police actions at the Al-Aqsa mosque compound, injuring and arresting hundreds of Palestinians over the past three days during the clashes.

Israel says it shot down a rocket launched from Gaza

JERUSALEM, April 18 (Reuters) - A rocket was launched on Monday from the Gaza Strip at Israel, which shot it down, the Israeli military said.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility from any Palestinian faction. Monday's launch was the first such attack from Gaza in seven months, Israel's Kan radio said.

Two Palestinians wounded by Israeli troops in West Bank raid

JERUSALEM (AP) — Two Palestinian men were critically injured by Israeli forces in the occupied West Bank on Monday, the Palestinian Health Ministry said, the latest incident in a wave of Israeli-Palestinian violence during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.

The Israeli military were conducting an arrest raid in the village of Yamun, west of Jenin in the northern West Bank, when dozens of Palestinians started throwing rocks and explosives at the troops, who returned fire.

Israeli flag carrier operates 1st flight from Tel Aviv to Sharm El-Sheikh

JERUSALEM, April 17 (Xinhua) -- The first direct flight from Israel's Tel Aviv to the Egyptian Red Sea resort of Sharm El-Sheikh landed on Sunday, said Israel's flagship airline El Al.

The flight, operated by El Al's subsidiary carrier Sun d'Or, took off from Ben Gurion International Airport with 189 passengers on board and landed 53 minutes later at airport in Sharm El-Sheikh, it said.

Sun d'Or would run three weekly round-trip flights on the new route, said El Al.

Israel: Clashes erupt again near flashpoint Jerusalem holy site

JERUSALEM (AP) — Israeli police on Sunday entered the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound in Jerusalem’s Old City to secure the way for Jewish visitors to the flashpoint holy site, fueling clashes that left 17 Palestinians wounded, according to Palestinian medical workers.

The unrest happened just two days after clashes with Palestinians at the same site. Violence in Jerusalem between Israeli security forces and Palestinian demonstrators a year ago escalated into an 11-day Gaza war.
