Israel's Elbit to provide Canada's air force with laser self-protection systems

JERUSALEM, Nov. 28 (Xinhua) -- Israeli defense electronics company Elbit Systems will supply advanced laser defense systems to Canada's new fleet of refueling and military transport aircraft, the company announced on Monday evening.

The Elbit's Direct Infrared Counter Measures (DIRCM) and Infrared (IR) Missile Warning systems will be installed on the Airbus A330 multi role tanker transport (MRTT) aircraft.

Belgium: EU court says public employees may be barred from wearing head scarf

BRUSSELS, Nov 28 (Reuters) - The top European Union court ruled on Tuesday that public authorities in member states can prohibit employees from wearing signs of religious belief, such as an Islamic head scarf, in the latest decision on an issue that has divided Europe for years.

The case came to the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) after an employee of the eastern Belgian municipality of Ans was told she could not wear an Islamic head scarf at work.

Iran finalises deal to buy Russian fighter jets - Tasnim

DUBAI, Nov 28 (Reuters) - Iran has finalised arrangements for the delivery of Russian made Sukhoi su-35 fighter jets and helicopters, Iran's deputy defence minister told Iran's Tasnim news agency on Tuesday, as Tehran and Moscow forge closer military relations.

Iran's air force has only a few dozen strike aircraft, including Russian jets as well as ageing U.S. models acquired before the 1979 Islamic Revolution.

USA: Vermont man charged with attempted murder in shooting of students of Palestinian descent

Nov 27 (Reuters) - The man accused of shooting and wounding three college students of Palestinian descent in Burlington, Vermont, over the weekend pleaded not guilty to attempted murder charges on Monday and was ordered by a judge to remain held without bond.

Jason J. Eaton, 48, was arraigned in Chittenden County Criminal Court in Burlington, appearing via a video feed from the county jail where he has been detained since his arrest on Sunday, the day after the attack.

Finland plans to close its entire border with Russia over migration concerns

HELSINKI (AP) — Prime Minister Petteri Orpo says Finland will close its entire border with Russia due to concerns over migration.

Orpo made the announcement during a news conference on Tuesday. Finland had only one remaining border checkpoint open, located in the Arcticm after the government closed seven others because of a surge in arrivals of migrants from the Middle East and Africa.

Finland accuses Moscow of ushering the migrants toward the Finnish border.
