Kuwait Names Crown Prince As New Emir

Kuwaiti Crown Prince, Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah

KUWAIT, Sept 30 (NNN-KUNA) – Kuwaiti Crown Prince, Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, yesterday, was named the new Emir, after the death of the late Emir, Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.

The government prays for the success of the new ruler, in his efforts to ensure the security and growth of the country, Kuwaiti Deputy Prime Minister, Anas Al-Saleh, said in a statement.

Sheikh Nawaf was born on June 25, 1937. He had served as the minister of interior from 1978 to 1988, when he was appointed as minister of defence.

On Feb 7, 2006, he was named crown prince.

On Oct 16, 2013, a royal decree was issued to name Sheikh Nawaf as first deputy prime minister and minister of interior.

The late Kuwaiti Emir, Sheikh Sabah, passed away at the age of 91, yesterday, according to the Amiri Diwan.

He was admitted to hospital in Kuwait on July 18, for a medical check-up and had a “successful” surgery a day later.

On July 23, the Emir left for the United States, to complete medical treatment, following his surgery.–
