Six Killed On New Year’s Eve As Elevator Crashes In India

NEW DELHI, Jan 1 (NNN-PTI) – At least six people were killed and several others injured, after an elevator at a private property crashed, in the central Indian state of Madhya Pradesh, police said today (Wednesday).

The accident took place in Patalpani-Mhow of Indore district, about 225 km west of Bhopal, the capital city of Madhya Pradesh.

The accident happened during a party, organised by a business family, at their farmhouse on New Year’s Eve.

“When some members entered the elevator, to come down to the ground floor, suddenly its belt broke and it crashed to the ground,” a police official in Mhow town said. “Six people, including the owner of the house, were killed, while a few others were left injured.”

The injured were immediately moved to the nearest hospital, where one woman was in critical condition, police said.

The deceased in the accident also include relatives of the house owner.

The elevator fell from a height of around 100 feet (about 30 metres), according to the police, who have registered the case and ordered an investigation.
