KIGALI, Dec. 1 (Xinhua) -- Domestic resource mobilization will be critical in the coming years for Rwanda and other countries to ensure sufficient and sustainable funding to sustain the gains toward ending AIDS by 2030, a UN official has said.

Hind Hassan, UNAIDS country representative for Rwanda, was speaking during an event Thursday in Kigali, the Rwandan capital, to mark this year's World AIDS Day, which falls on Friday.

KIGALI, Nov. 17 (Xinhua) -- The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations, in collaboration with the Rwandan Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Resources and the City of Kigali, launched a campaign on Thursday to plant fruit trees in 100 schools in the Rwandan capital.

The campaign, dubbed "Healthy Forest, Healthy Planet," aims at promoting environmental awareness and sustainable agriculture in schools and in farms by planting more than 20,000 trees.

KIGALI, Oct. 1 (Xinhua) -- Jean Paul Kubwimana, a Rwandan resident, is engaged in a lucrative greenhouse farming venture after receiving support from the Sustainable Agricultural Intensification and Food Security Project (SAIP), a project funded by the World Bank.

"I thank SAIP for supporting me to acquire a greenhouse through a matching grant and for providing training on how to maintain it, enabling my crops to thrive. I cultivated tomatoes in the greenhouse, and the yield is extremely amazing," Kubwimana, a father of two, told Xinhua in a recent interview.

KIGALI, July 17 (Xinhua) -- Rwanda is set to open its first diplomatic mission in Budapest, Hungary, "very soon" as part of the country's plans to strengthen cooperation with the European country, President Paul Kagame has said.

"Rwanda intends to open a diplomatic presence in Budapest, Hungary, very soon as job creation for our countries and fostering an enabling environment for business are key priorities," Kagame told a press conference Sunday alongside his Hungarian counterpart Katalin Novak in Kigali, the Rwandan capital.

KIGALI, May 4 (NNN-AGENCIES) — At least 127 people have died as floods and landslides engulfed several parts of Rwanda after torrential rains, destroying homes and cutting off roads, the presidency said.

Images posted online by the state broadcaster showed rivers of mud sweeping through the streets as residents scrambled for safety, some wading through the water or clambering over the corrugated iron roofs of collapsed houses.

KIGALI, Rwanda (AP) — Torrential rains caused flooding in western and northern Rwanda, killing 109 people, a public broadcaster said Wednesday.

The death toll “continues to rise,” the Rwanda Broadcasting Agency said Wednesday.

“This could be the highest disaster-induced death toll to be recorded in the country in the shortest period, according to available records from recent years,” the government-backed New Times newspaper reported.

KIGALI, Feb. 11 (Xinhua) -- Rwanda on Friday reaffirmed its commitment to supporting girls and women scientists as well as expanding access to education and training opportunities in science and technology during celebrations to mark the International Day of Women and Girls in Science which falls on Feb. 11.

The event in the Rwandan capital of Kigali featured discussions centered on women and girls in science and technology, with female role models among the participants.

KIGALI, Nov. 26 (Xinhua) -- Rwanda on Friday joined the rest of the world to mark the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence calling for collective efforts to stem the violence.

Under the national theme of "Unite, Build a Violence-Free Society", the campaign will be used to raise awareness of the need to stem the violence against women and girls, mobilize the public to combat the violence and reduce cases of child defilement and teenage pregnancy.

KIGALI, Sept. 27 (Xinhua) -- The Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) would spur trade and investment cooperation between Africa and China after easing connectivity and transportation challenges, a Rwandan legislator said.

In a recent interview in the capital city Kigali, Emmanuel Bugingo, the chairperson of the Committee on Foreign Affairs, Cooperation and Security in the Chamber of Deputies, said the BRI will bridge the infrastructure gap in Rwanda, thereby connecting the country to Africa and the rest of the world.
