ALGIERS, March 24 (Xinhua) -- The Algerian Red Crescent on Sunday began the loading of 150 tonnes of humanitarian aid bound for the Gaza Strip which teeters on the brink of a mass famine.
The aid, carried by eight military aircraft, will depart from Boufarik Military Airport, some 30 km southwest of the capital Algiers, the Red Crescent said in a statement.
The aid is expected to arrive at the Al Arish airport in Egypt before being transported to Rafah in southern Gaza.

State energy firm Botas signed the agreement to extend its existing gas supply contract with Algerian state oil and gas company Sonatrach during an official visit to Algiers by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
12 November 2023; MEMO: Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune appointed Nadir Larbaoui as the country’s new prime minister, replacing Aymen Benabderrahmane, reports Anadolu Agency.
This came after Tebboune dismissed Benabderrahmane, according to state television.
No information was given about the reason for the dismissal of Benabderrahmane, who served as prime minister for about 2.5 years, leading a government of technocrats and representatives from parties supporting Tebboune.

In a statement, the Foreign Ministry said eight aircraft loaded with foodstuff, medical supplies, clothes and tents will be dispatched to the flood-hit country.
The statement, however, did not specify a date for sending the aid.

ALGIERS, Aug. 12 (Xinhua) -- A landmark Algerian highway built to connect 17 provinces has been completed with China's CITIC Construction delivering its final 84-km segment on Saturday.
As the final leg of the ambitious East-West Highway project, the 84-km project stretches from Drean in the easternmost province of El Tarf to the town of Raml Souk bordering Tunisia.
