Kanpur: The world is becoming noisier and will get more so every other day. But the noise of current transformer(CT), installed on 33 thousand volt line usually linking power sub-station from Transmission Sub-station, works as a tool of safety.
This very gadget controls demand and current flow. There remains boiling oil from 10 to 15 litres in this current transformer. In case of breakup of the CT, this oil turns into a fireball.
Under Integrated Power Development Scheme new sub-stations ate being established. Old sub-stations are being modernized. More Than 96 CTs have been fitted in 33 Kw single face.
According to Kesco officials one CT costs 50 thousand rupees. Thus total cost comes to Rs 48 Lakh.
What is disturbing factor is question mark on quality of the CTs. Within a period of six months as many as 15 CTs were damaged.
This has created a sense of fear among SSOs and other employees. On complaints the officers appeared to have not cared much.
One incident of Prampurwa power sub-stations and another of KESA colony sub-station are enough to prove the truth.
Meanwhile, the Kesco officers have decided to change 96 CTs. For this purpose a letter has also been sent to the supplier company.
