India: Shaheed Park in Cantt needs more greenery

Kanpur: Just near the Circuit House in Cantt area here, there exïsts Shaheed Park. It is not as beautiful as it should actually be. The flowers are not blooming in its closed area, though trimmed plants are there. The beautifully designed fountain which used to be working was no longer oozing out water. The four-side light posts standing on the shining black stone podium are broken in one corner. The rows on the ground are giving the proof that the gardener devoted time but the saplings lack buds. It may be due to the summer.

These days the restructured front wide gate of the Circuit House and the green look inside present better view thereby diminishing the value of the Shaheed park. The long cemented chairs in the park are there but not so clean, as people often complain. When it is not opened for the public the park remains only for viewing. If it is opened during the school's closing time in the afternoon the little girls can enjoy the time for a few minutes, the parents state.

This park used to open early in the morning and the fountain was also in running position. There has now been a fixed cooling water machine which quenches the thirst of common people as its taps are so fitted as helping thirsty man to drink water.

The area people, when asked to comment on its maintenance, said if more greenery returns to the not-so-new park it would again present a finer view. Passing through the park the motorists and bikers feel good.
