Three Russians detained in Thailand at US’ request over three years

BANGKOK, December 18. /TASS/. Three Russian citizens have been detained in Thailand at the request of the United States in the last three years, head of the Consulate Department of the Russian Embassy in Thailand Vladimir Pronin told reporters on Tuesday.

"Only in the last three years, three Russians have been detained in Thailand at the US’ request, two of them - in 2018," he stressed. "In all three cases, the US accused them of alleged cybercrimes: hacking, stealing or laundering money via the Internet."

Pacific rim trade pact goes ahead after Australia ratifies

BANGKOK (AP) — The Pacific rim trade pact abandoned by President Donald Trump will take effect at the year’s end after Australia became the sixth nation to ratify it.

Australia announced Wednesday that it had completed procedures needed for the trade arrangement, the Comprehensive and Progressive Trans-Pacific Partnership, to progress. It will take effect Dec. 30.

The deal is aimed at streamlining trade and slashing tariffs to facilitate more business activities between member nations with a combined population of nearly 500 million people and GDP of $13.5 trillion.

Indian tourist among 2 people killed in shootout in Thailand

Bangkok, Oct 8; PTI: A 42-year-old Indian was among two foreign tourists killed and five others, including two Indians, seriously injured in a shootout between two rival gangs here, Thai Police said Monday.

The shooting took place last night on a street behind Centara Watergate Pavillion hotel in Ratchathewi district, where tourist coaches were parked, 'Bangkok Post' reported.

Gakhrejr Dheeraj, an Indian, and Keovongsa Thonekeo, 28, a Lao tourist, died at a hospital where other injured are undergoing treatment.

World shares fall on reports China-US trade talks put off

BANGKOK; 24 Sep 2018; (AP) — Shares have fallen in Europe and Asia after China reportedly rebuffed a plan for talks with the U.S. on resolving their dispute over trade and technology.

KEEPING SCORE: Germany’s DAX fell 0.4 percent to 12,382.50 and the CAC 40 in France lost 0.3 percent to 5,479.86. The FTSE 100 in Britain lost 0.2 percent to 7,472.33. The futures contracts for the Dow Jones industrial average and the S&P 500 both fell 0.2 percent, auguring a slow start on Wall Street.

12 Thai Boys and coach found in cave, rescue operation begins

Parentsand, relatives and frinds wait anxiously as authorities, emergency workers and the rescuers plan evacuation of 12 boys and a coach from a flooded cave.

12 missing boys and their football coach were found alive and apparently safe in Tham Luang cave by a British cave explorer.

“They became trapped after entering the Tham Luang Cave on June 23 after soccer practice. Evacuating the group through flooded passages will be difficult and dangerous, experts say, in part because the boys are unlikely to have dived before.”, reported Bangkok Post.
