India: Modi government expels a Canadian diplomat after Trudeau says India was involved in Sikh’s killing

NEW DELHI (AP) — India expelled a senior Canadian diplomat Tuesday and accused Canada of interfering in its internal affairs, escalating a breach with Ottawa over its allegations of Indian involvement in the killing of a Sikh activist in Canada.

India’s Manipur Violence Death Toll Reaches 175

NEW DELHI, Sept 15 (NNN-PTI) – The death toll in the ongoing ethnic violence that shook India’s north-eastern state of Manipur has risen to 175, officials said today.

As per figures released by police in the state last night, since May 3 – the day violence broke out in the state – 175 people have been killed, 1,118 injured and 33 reported missing.

The number of weapons looted from the state armoury since the beginning of the violence was 5,668. However, so far, only 1,329 weapons have been recovered.

India: 10 Missing As Boat Capsized In Bihar

NEW DELHI, Sept 14 (NNN-PTI) – At least 10 people went missing, while 20 others were rescued, after a boat carrying them capsized today, in the eastern Indian state of Bihar, officials said.

The boat capsized in the river Bagmati in Muzaffarpur district, about 73 km north of Patna, the capital city of Bihar.

Following the accident, authorities rushed rescuers and disaster management officials to the spot, to carry out search and rescue operations.

India's Nipah virus trackers gather samples from bats, fruit

New Delhi, Sept 14 (Reuters) - Experts have fanned out in India's southern state of Kerala to collect samples of fluid from bats and fruit trees in a region where the deadly Nipah virus has killed two people and three more have tested positive.

The state is battling its fourth outbreak since 2018 of a virus for which there is no vaccine, and which spreads through contact with the body fluids of infected bats, pigs or people, killing up to 75% of those infected.

Over 700 people tested for Nipah virus after two deaths in India

NEW DELHI, Sept 13 (Reuters) - The southern Indian state of Kerala shut some schools, offices and public transport on Wednesday in a race to stop the spread of the rare and deadly Nipah virus, which has killed two people.

Two adults and a child were still infected in hospital, and more than 700 people were being tested for the virus, spread via contact with the bodily fluids of infected bats, pigs or people, a state health official said.

Saudi Arabia could open sovereign wealth fund office in India's GIFT City

NEW DELHI, Sept 11 (Reuters) - Saudi Arabia could set up an office of its sovereign wealth fund in India's Gujarat International Finance Tec-City (GIFT), its investment minister said in New Delhi on Monday.

GIFT City is India's tax-neutral financial services centre and a key project for Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, with the aim of rivalling financial services centres in Dubai and Hong Kong.

New Mideast corridor would include trains to India, Delhi says

NEW DELHI, Sept 11 (Reuters) - A new ports and railway corridor for the Middle East and South Asia will include train links to India, an Indian foreign ministry official said on Monday, offering new details about the plan unveiled over the weekend at the G20 summit in Delhi.

Asked about the proposals, Ausaf Sayeed, a secretary in the Foreign Ministry, spelled out that the corridor would include trains to India and not just links by port.

Armenia’s intentions to hold joint military exercise with US regrettable — Lavrov

NEW DELHI, September 10. /TASS/: Russia regrets Armenian intentions to hold joint drills with the United States, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov told a news conference following the G20 summit.

"This move by the Armenian leaders is regrettable," Russia’s top diplomat said, commenting on Yerevan’s decision to hold a joint military exercise with the United States.

Russia can see little good coming from NATO’s attempts to infiltrate into South Caucasus, Lavrov emphasized.
