European MPs describe Israel actions in Gaza as 'genocide', 'ethnic cleansing'

During a session held at the European Parliament’s General Assembly yesterday, parliamentarians accused the European Union of applying double standards by remaining silent on Israel’s war on the Gaza Strip.

China rejects EU's allegations of EV overcapacity export: ambassador

BRUSSELS, Nov. 23 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Ambassador to the European Union (EU) Fu Cong on Thursday dismissed a recent claim that China is exporting its overcapacity of electric vehicles (EV) to the European market.

"I want to emphasize the fact that the Chinese companies are selling cars in Europe does not by itself signify an overcapacity," the ambassador said during the Europe-China Forum held here by Friends of Europe, a Brussels-based non-profit think tank for EU policy.

Some 300 participants, including policymakers, businessmen and researchers, attended the event.

Belgium: NATO to replace AWACS surveillance jets with modified Boeing 737

BRUSSELS, Nov 15 (Reuters) - NATO will replace its ageing fleet of AWACS surveillance planes, in service since the Cold War in the 1980s, with a militarised version of the Boeing 737 commercial jet, the alliance said on Wednesday, in a deal likely worth billions of euros.

Acting like a flying radar tower, the AWACS (Airborne Warning and Control System) jets with the distinctive, nine-metre wide radomes on their backs have been NATO's eyes in the sky since 1982.

The report sees Chinese enterprises' rating of the EU business environment dipping for the fourth year in a row, albeit at a slower pace.

Belgium: Borrell says not up to him to say whether Ukraine has chance to win in conflict

BRUSSELS, November 14. /TASS/: EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell said that he 'does not know' whether Ukraine has a chance to win in the conflict, stressing that "his duty" was "to support it."

Speaking at a press conference following a meeting of EU defense ministers, Borrel was asked if he shared the opinion of Ukrainian top military commander Valery Zaluzhny that "the war situation is in a stalement" and that the EU needs to gather weapons for a new Kiev offensive next year in order to "decisively" change the situation on the battlefield.

Belgium: EU struggles to produce and send the ammunition it promised to Ukraine

BRUSSELS (AP) — European Union nations acknowledged on Tuesday that they risk failing to provide Ukraine with the ammunition they pledged to help Kyiv stave off the Russian invasion and win back its territory.

Early this year, EU leaders promised to provide 1 million rounds of ammunition to Ukraine’s front line by spring next year in what would have amounted to a serious ramp-up of production. But the 27-nation bloc, for over half a century steeped in a “peace, not war” message and sheltering under a U.S. military umbrella, is finding it tough to come up with the goods.

EU Council President Michel calls for no double standards in Israel-Palestine conflict

10 November 2023; MEMO: European Council President, Charles Michel, in a recent interview with Belgian newspaper Le Libre, emphasised the need for the European Union to avoid double standards in its approach to the Israel-Palestine conflict, Anadolu Agency reports.

Michel reiterated the recognition of Israel’s right to self-defence, stressing that it must be consistent with international law.

Belgium: EU has 'Plan B' if Hungary vetoes 50 billion euro aid for Ukraine

BRUSSELS/BUDAPEST, Nov 10 (Reuters) - The European Union will be able work around any Hungarian veto and give Ukraine 50 billion euros ($53.4 bln) in aid, officials in the bloc said, as Kyiv struggles to push back Russia's invasion 21 months into the war.

The bloc's executive has proposed expanding budget support to help Ukraine pay salaries and meet other expenses as the conflict grinds on, and the EU's 27 member states are due to vote on the package at a Dec. 14-15 summit in Brussels.
