Israel delays expelling Palestinian family from Jerusalem due to escalating violence

11 October 2022; MEMO: The Israeli Public Security Minister denied a request by the extreme far-right nationalist politician and Interior Minister, Ayelet Shaked, to forcibly remove a Palestinian family from their home in Jerusalem.

Omer Bar-Lev expressed concerns regarding the escalation of violence amid the Yom Kippur celebrations and will, therefore, wait till the celebrations are over.

Lebanon, Israel clinch maritime border deal, Israel says

11 October 2022; MEMO: Lebanon and Israel have reached a historic agreement demarcating a disputed maritime border between them, following years of US-mediated negotiations, Israeli Prime Minister, Yair Lapid, said on Tuesday, Reuters reports.

While limited in scope, a deal would mark a significant compromise between States with a history of war and hostility, opening the way for offshore energy exploration and easing a source of recent tensions.

Israel says ‘historic’ sea border deal struck with Lebanon

JERUSALEM (AP) — Israel’s prime minister said Tuesday that the country has reached a “historic agreement” with neighboring Lebanon over their shared maritime border after months of U.S.-brokered negotiations.

It’s a rare agreement between two countries that are bitter enemies. But the deal still faces some obstacles, including some expected legal challenges in Israel. There was no immediate confirmation by Lebanon that a deal had been reached.

Israeli Top Court Overturns Election Ban On Arab Party

JERUSALEM, Oct 10 (NNN-PNA) – The Israeli top court, yesterday, overturned a ban preventing the Arab party of Balad from running in the country’s parliamentary elections, due on Nov 1.

The Supreme Court’s nine-judge panel, unanimously decided to cancel the decision by the Central Elections Committee, to disqualify Balad from running in the elections, according to a statement released by the court, that did not mention reasons for the decision.

10 October 2022; MEMO: The Israeli Supreme Court yesterday overturned a ban on the National Democratic Assembly (Balad) from participating in the upcoming parliamentary elections slated for 1 November 2022.

In a statement, the Legal Centre for Arab Minority Rights in Israel (Adalah) said that the Israeli Supreme Court overturned a decision by Israel's Central Elections Committee (CEC) to disqualify Arab parties from running in Israeli national elections, calling the move "historic".

Israel nabs 6 Palestinians for suspected links to deadly shooting attack

JERUSALEM, Oct. 9 (Xinhua) -- The Israeli police arrested on Sunday six Palestinians for their suspected links to a deadly shooting attack in East Jerusalem on Saturday, as the search for the shooter is still underway.

The gunman opened fire at a military checkpoint near Shuafat, a Palestinian neighborhood of East Jerusalem, killing Noa Lazar, an 18-year-old female sergeant with the military police, the military said in a statement.

Israeli Defence Minister Put Army On Alert Amid Deadlock In Border Talks With Lebanon

JERUSALEM, Oct 8 (NNN-PNA) – Israeli Defence Minister, Benny Gantz, instructed the regime’s army, to prepare for any possible escalation with Lebanon, hours after Israel rejected Lebanon’s amendments to the U.S.-brokered proposal for demarcating a maritime border.

“In light of the developments in the maritime border negotiations with Lebanon, Gantz instructed the defence ministry, to prepare for any scenario, in which tensions increase in the northern arena, including defensive and offensive readiness,” his office said in a statement.

Palestinians: 2 killed in Israeli military raid in West Bank

JERUSALEM (AP) — Israeli soldiers shot and killed two Palestinians on Saturday in an exchange of fire that erupted during a military raid in the West Bank, according to Israeli and Palestinian accounts, in the latest confrontation that has made 2022 the deadliest year of violence in the occupied territory since 2015.

The raid occurred in the Jenin refugee camp in the northern West Bank, the site of repeated clashes between Israeli forces and local gunmen and residents. The camp is known as a stronghold of Palestinian militants and the army often operates there.

Israel vows to counter any anti-occupation action during holidays

5 October 2022; MEMO: Israeli Defence Minister Benny Gantz yesterday vowed to counter any Palestinian anti-occupation resistance during Jewish holy days.

On Twitter, Gantz wrote that he had held a situation assessment at the Central Command with the participation of Chief of Staff of the Israeli Army, Aviv Kohavi, and Shin Bet chief Ronen Bar.

Several other military and security chiefs attended the assessment, including Commander of the Central Command Colonel Yehuda Fox.
