Cooperation between India and Israel growing at a rapid pace

New Delhi, May 8 (PTI) Cooperation between India and Israel are growing at a rapid pace and a change in government will not impact the bilateral ties, Israeli envoy Ron Malka said Wednesday.

He said the strategic relations between the two countries are based on common values and vision and the cooperation between the two countries will grow further in coming years.

Hole in Gurgaon flyover brings traffic to halt

Gurgaon, May 8 (PTI) Hundreds of commuters had to face massive traffic jam when they spotted a four-foot-wide hole at the Hero Honda Chowk flyover on National Highway-8 on Wednesday morning.

The flyover was thrown open for public in 2016 to ease traffic on the highly-congested stretch. This is third occasion when the flyover was shut due such incidents, putting a serious question mark over the quality of construction.

Turkey, India to hold political talks in New Delhi

ANKARA; 8 May 2019; AA: Turkey and India will hold political consultations in New Delhi, India’s capital, on Wednesday.

Sedat Onal, Turkey’s deputy foreign minister and Gitesh Sarma, secretary (West) in External Affairs Ministry of India will co-chair the talks, a Turkish Foreign Ministry statement said.

Bilateral relations, regional and international issues as well as cooperation in the international organizations will be discussed during the consultations, it added.

Indian Polls: VVPAT EVMs slips: SC dismisses plea of 21 Opposition leaders

New Delhi, May 7 : The Supreme Court Tuesday dismissed the plea filed by 21 Opposition leaders seeking a review of its April 8 order directing the Election Commission to increase random matching of VVPAT slips with EVMs to five polling booths per assembly segment.

"We are not inclined to modify our order," a bench headed by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi said.

The plea was filed by opposition leaders led by Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu.

Indian Polls: SC asks EC to look into grievances of Tej Bahadur Yadav

New Delhi, May 8 (PTI) The Supreme Court Wednesday asked the Election Commission to examine grievances raised by sacked BSF jawan Tej Bahadur Yadav, whose nomination against Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Varansai, was cancelled.

A bench headed by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi asked the counsel for EC to seek instructions and apprise it by tomorrow.

Advocate Prashant Bhushan, appearing for Yadav, referred to an earlier verdict to the court and said election petitions can be filed during the enforcement of the Model Code of Conduct.

India: Deadline for finalisation of Assam NRC will not extend: SC

New Delhi, May 8 (PTI) The Supreme Court Wednesday made it clear that it will not extend the July 31 deadline for finalisation of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) in Assam.

A bench comprising Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi and Justice R F Nariman also gave a "free hand" to Prateek Hajela, Assam NRC coordinator dealing with claims and objections of persons against wrong exclusion or inclusion of citizens in the NRC.

Indian Polls: Caste equations, unauthorised colonies key in North East Delhi seat

New Delhi, May 8 (PTI) Caste equations and unauthorised colonies are in focus in the North-East Delhi parliamentary constituency from where political heavyweights - three-time chief minister Sheila Dikshit, BJP's Manoj Tiwari and AAP's Dilip Pandey -will try their luck in the May 12 polls.

The constituency has the highest concentration of Poorvanchalis, Muslims and migrants from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, who play a decisive role during elections.

Rahul Gandhi tenders unconditional apology for attributing 'chowkidar chor hai' remarks to SC

New Delhi, May 8 (PTI) Congress president Rahul Gandhi Wednesday tendered an unconditional apology in the Supreme Court for wrongfully attributing to the apex court the 'chowkidar chor hai' remark in the Rafale verdict

He also sought closure of the criminal contempt proceedings against him on a petition filed by BJP MP Meenakshi Lekhi

In a fresh three-page affidavit, Gandhi said he holds the apex court in the "highest esteem and respect" and that he has never sought to do anything which interferes with the process of administration of justice

Delhi court sentences man to 3 years in jail for subjecting wife to cruelty

New Delhi, May 6 (PTI) A Delhi court has sentenced a man to three years in jail for subjecting his wife to cruelty to coerce her to meet his dowry demands, which forced her to commit suicide within one-and-a-half year of their marriage.

Additional Sessions Judge Deepak Garg convicted 30-year-old Pradeep under section 498 A (husband or his relative subjecting wife to cruelty) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and imposed a fine of Rs 20,000 on him.
