Delhi: AAP sends notice to BJP, Gambhir demanding apology

New Delhi, May 10 (PTI) The AAP Friday sent a notice to the BJP and its East Delhi Lok Sabha seat candidate Gautam Gambhir demanding an apology for the derogatory pamphlet allegedly circulated against Atishi Marlena, failing which "appropriate legal proceedings will be initiated".

Filed by advocate Mohammad Irsad, from the legal cell of the AAP, the notice termed the pamphlets "offending publication" and alleged that those were published by Gambhir and the BJP.

Indian SC Collegium rejects gov objection, reiterates its recommendation for justices Aniruddha Bose and A S Bopanna

New Delhi, May 9; PTI/GANASHAKTI: Rejecting the government's objections, the Supreme Court Collegium has reiterated its recommendation to elevate Justices Aniruddha Bose and A S Bopanna to the apex court, observing that nothing adverse has been found regarding their competence, conduct or integrity.

The collegium has also recommended names of Justices B R Gavai and Surya Kant for elevation to the apex court.

The two resolutions of the Collegium were made public on the apex court's website on Thursday.

Indian Govt played fraud to obtain favourable Rafale verdict: petitioners

New Delhi, May 9; PTI/GANASHAKTI: The Centre misled and played fraud upon the apex court to obtain favourable order in the Rafale fighter jet case last December, former Union ministers Yashwant Sinha and Arun Shourie and activist lawyer Prashant Bhushan claimed in the Supreme Court on Thursday.

In a rejoinder affidavit filed in the apex court, they said the December 14 verdict in the Rafale case should be reviewed as the judgement was obtained through "multiple falsehoods and suppression of material and relevant information".

India: SC dismisses plea to debar Rahul Gandhi from contesting

New Delhi, May 9; PTI/GANASHAKTI: The Supreme Court Thursday dismissed a plea seeking direction to the Centre and the Election Commission to debar Congress President Rahul Gandhi from contesting Lok Sabha elections till the issue of his citizenship is decided.

A bench headed by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi rejected the contention of the petitioners, who said that in a form along with the annual data of a UK-based company in 2005-06, it was allegedly mentioned that Rahul Gandhi is a British citizen.

Indian Polls: EC prepares for bigger VVPAT count on May 23

New Delhi, May 9 (PTI) As it prepares for the mammoth exercise of counting of votes for Lok Sabha polls, the Election Commission has stated that in case of a mismatch between EVM and VVPAT machine counts, the latter will be held valid.

Though the exercise of matching EVM results with paper trail machine (VVPAT) slips was being held in various assembly elections, this is the first time it will be undertaken in Lok Sabha polls.

RIL to acquire British toy-maker Hamleys for Rs 620 cr

New Delhi, May 9 (PTI) Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Industries Thursday announced it will acquire iconic British toy-maker Hamleys for 67.96 million pounds (around Rs 620 crore) in an all-cash deal.

Hamleys, a 259-year-old toy-maker, has struggled to generate profits in recent times. It reported a profit after tax of 2.44 million pounds in 2018 after suffering a loss of 11.24 million pounds in 2017.

Ayodhya Mosque case: SC grants time till Aug 15 for panel mediation process

New Delhi, May 10 (PTI) The Supreme Court Friday extended till August 15 the time for a panel of mediators, headed by former apex court judge Justice F M I Kalifulla, to explore an amicable solution to the politically sensitive Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid land dispute at Ayodhya.

A five judge constitution bench headed by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi said they have received the report from Justice Kalifulla in which the panel has sought extension of time till August 15 to complete mediation proceedings.

Indian Economy in 'disastrous phase of slowdown': Chidambaram

New Delhi, May 8 (PTI) Senior Congress leader P Chidambaram Wednesday said macro economic indicators confirm that the Indian economy has entered a "disastrous phase of slowdown" and criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Finance Minister Arun Jaitley for their failures.

He also accused Jaitley of perfecting the art of "concealing" data and projecting "doctored" information.

India: Will bring petrol and diesel within ambit of GST: Rahul

New Delhi, May 8 (PTI) Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday promised that if his party is voted to power it will bring petrol and diesel within the ambit of the GST and will try and reduce rising prices.

He said the Congress believes that rising prices have put a heavy burden on the life of the common man.

"To reduce this burden, the Congress party will bring petrol and diesel within the ambit of the GST and will try and reduce the increasing prices," Gandhi said in a Facebook post.
