N. Korea says it won’t denuclearize unless US removes threat

SEOUL, South Korea (AP) — North Korea said Thursday it will never unilaterally give up its nuclear weapons unless the United States first removes what Pyongyang called a nuclear threat. The surprisingly blunt statement jars with Seoul’s rosier presentation of the North Korean position and could rattle the fragile trilateral diplomacy to defuse a nuclear crisis that last year had many fearing war.

Three Russians detained in Thailand at US’ request over three years

BANGKOK, December 18. /TASS/. Three Russian citizens have been detained in Thailand at the request of the United States in the last three years, head of the Consulate Department of the Russian Embassy in Thailand Vladimir Pronin told reporters on Tuesday.

"Only in the last three years, three Russians have been detained in Thailand at the US’ request, two of them - in 2018," he stressed. "In all three cases, the US accused them of alleged cybercrimes: hacking, stealing or laundering money via the Internet."

Xi warns no one can 'dictate' China's path

18 Dec 2018; AFP: President Xi Jinping warned Tuesday that no one can "dictate" China's economic development path as the Communist Party marked 40 years of its historic "reform and opening up" policy amid a stern challenge from the United States.

In a speech at the grandiose Great Hall of the People, Xi vowed to press ahead with economic reforms but made clear that Beijing will not deviate from its one-party system or take orders from any other country.

Japan to get first post-WWII aircraft carriers

Malaysia files criminal charges against Goldman Sachs over state fund scandal

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec. 17 (Xinhua) -- Malaysia filed criminal charges on Monday against Goldman Sachs and two former executives over state investment fund 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) scandal.

In a statement, Malaysian Attorney General Tommy Thomas said Goldman Sachs and its former bankers Tim Leissner and Roger Ng are were charged under Malaysian laws over their alleged involvement in a scheme to defraud the Malaysian government.

North Korea warns on US sanctions

Beijing, Dec 14 (PTI) China has lodged a "stern" diplomatic protest with the US over the Senate passing a bipartisan legislation that seeks to impose a visa ban on Chinese officials who deny American citizens, officials and journalists access to Tibet, even as Bejing asked Washington not to make it a law.

Reacting to the US move, Chinese foreign ministry spokesman Lu Kang said here that the American action disregarded facts and amounted to interfering in China's internal affairs and was a violation of international rules.

Indonesian military to take over construction in Papua after brutal violence

JAKARTA, Dec. 14 (Xinhua) -- Indonesian soldiers will take over construction in Nduga district of Papua province in eastern Indonesia in the wake of brutal assassination of 16 construction workers by an armed group earlier this month, a military officer said.

Indonesian armed force will resume works of PT Istaka Karya construction firm in building the 4,000 km trans-Papua highway and bridges, Indonesian military commander in the district Jonathan B. Parluhutan revealed.
