BEIRUT, May 26 (NNN-NNA) – The Lebanese army, along with the UN Interim Force in Lebanon, are investigating an Israeli claim of shooting down a drone that crossed over from Lebanon earlier yesterday, a Lebanese security source, said.

An Israeli infantry force was found to be combing with armoured vehicles the borderline where the drone fell, the source said on condition of anonymity.

The Israeli military announced in the day, the downing of a drone near its border with Lebanon, without revealing who operated the drone or whether it was armed.

In recent months, there have been rising tensions between Israel and Lebanon’s Iran-backed Hezbollah militant group.

Earlier this week, the Israel Defence Forces warned Hezbollah Secretary General, Hassan Nasrallah that, he is close to making “a mistake that could plunge the region into war” after Hezbollah staged war games near the border with Israel.

Israel has more than once shot down Hezbollah’s drones that crossed into Israeli territory from southern Lebanon.

Israel and Hezbollah fought a month-long war in 2006. Since then, there have been sporadic exchanges of fire between the two sides on the border.
