India: Killers of former MP and MLA Atiq Ahmed - Bajrang Dal leader, unemployed and druggists

Police talking to Arun Maurya's aunt

Prayagraj; 16 April 2023 (UMMN): Lovlesh Tiwari, Sunny Singh and Arun Maurya, the three killers of Former MP and MLA  Atiq Ahmed and his brother Ashraf are Bajrang Dal leader, jobless and addicted to drugs, it has been revealed by UP Police and their families.

The three killers; Sunny Singh is a resident of Hamirpur district, Lavlesh Tiwari is from Kotwali in Banda and Arun Maurya belongs to village Baghela Pukhta within the limits of Soron Kotwali police station in Kasganj.

Surprisingly, the families of all three men have disowned the assailants and said that they had already left their homes much before the incident. All three have been booked and jailed for petty crimes in the past.

Lavlesh Tiwari is a Bajrang Dal leader, according to his Facebook profile. He says he is Zila Sah Pramukh of Bajrang Dal.

Sunny Singh has 17 criminal cases against him in Hamirpur district. He was studying at Lucknow University but dropped out in the first year of B.A. Jailed for teasing a girl three years ago, he is a history-sheeter criminal of Kurara police station in Hamirpur district.

Arun Maurya alias Kalia lived in village of Kasganj district. He left the village 15 years ago and never returned. Father and mother of Arun Maurya have died and his uncle Megh Singh Maurya resides in the village with his family.

Speaking to reporters of The Economic Times on Sunday, Yagya Tiwari, father of Lovelesh said, “we are not aware of the actions of Lovelesh nor do we have anything to do with this. He never lived here and neither was he involved in our family affairs. He did not tell us anything. He came here five or six days ago. We have not been on talking terms with him for years.”

"He doesn't work. He was a drug addict… we have nothing to say about this," Yagya Tiwari added.

Lovelesh Tewari was jailed too. His father told the media that the family has nothing to do with him.

Asha, Lovelesh Tiwari’s mother was seen crying as she spoke to the news agency ANI, and said, “Pata nahi uske naseeb mein kya likha tha (don’t know what was written in his destiny). He was deeply religious and would visit temples regularly for darshans. We have not talked to him since he left the house. His phone was also switched off."

Speaking to ANI, Pintu Singh, brother of shooter Sunny Singh, said, "he used to wander around and did no work. We live separately and don’t know how he became a criminal. We have no idea about the incident."

UP Police on Sunday said that shooters who killed politician Atiq Ahmed and his brother Ashraf were posing as Journalists at the spot of the incident. "Shooters were posing as journalists. As Atiq reached for a check-up, they were surrounded by other journalists and got close to Atiq and his brother. One was having a camera and was posing as a cameraman. While one was roaming with a mike where it was written NCR News. Third was assisting both," police sources said.
