Husband's fresh statement brings twist in acid throwing case

Kanpur: There has been a new twist in the case of burning acid on husband on Saturday in Cooperganj here.

As soon as the wife went to jail, the husband retracted from his allegations.

He told the media that he had got scalded after hot water fell on him, the wife had not thrown acid, although the police had sent the wife to jail.

Dabbu Gupta, a resident of Cooperganj, on Saturday accused his wife Poonam of burning him by pouring acid on him.

On Dabbu's application, the police got her medical done and sent Poonam to jail on Sunday.

Dabbu, who came in front of the media on Monday, retracted his statements. said that he had lied about throwing acid while intoxicated.

He was picking up the hot water kept in the utensil when it turned over and he got burnt.

Police station in-charge RJ Gautam said that the wife has been sent to jail after filing a case. Chemical burns have also been confirmed medically.

The victim has not yet informed the police about the hot water falling.
