Russia: Putin not go to East Asia Summit, says Kremlin spokesman

Peskov

MOSCOW, November 7. /TASS/: Russian President Vladimir Putin is not planning to go to the East Asia Summit, scheduled for November.

"This trip is not planned," Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov told journalists on Monday.

In September, Putin’s Aide Yury Ushakov said that the Russian president planned speeches at several summits, including the East Asia Summit. The president took part in the 2020 East Asia Summit via video link. In October 2021, he participated in the 16th East Asia Summit hosted by Brunei, also via video conference. This year, the summit’s host is Cambodia.

The East Asia Summit is a venue for strategic dialogue between the leaders of the Asia-Pacific region on a wide range of issues on the regional stage. It was established in 2005 to promote cooperation between the members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and its dialogue partners - Russia, the US (both joined the EAS in 2010), China, the Republic of Korea, Japan, India, Australia and New Zealand.

East Asia summits are held yearly, in conjunction with ASEAN’s fall events.
