Yemeni Army Claimed To Have Shot Down Two Bomb-Laden Houthi Drones

Houthi Drones

SANAA, Nov 7 (NNN-YPA) – Yemen’s government forces said yesterday that, it shot down two bomb-laden drones, launched by the Houthi militia over the past 24 hours.

In a statement aired by Yemeni TV, the army said, one drone was downed in the central province of Marib, while the other was intercepted near Al-Hazm, the capital city of the north-eastern province of Al-Jawf.

A noticeable upsurge in Houthi attacks across Yemen, since the six-month national peace collapsed on Oct 2, has raised concern about potential major confrontations. Yemen’s internationally-recognised government said last week that, it started to tighten up precautionary security measures around key production facilities in some southern regions.

Yemen has been mired in a civil war since late 2014, when the Houthi group stormed several northern cities and forced the Saudi-backed Yemeni government out of the capital, Sanaa.

The war has killed tens of thousands of people, displaced four million, and pushed the country to the brink of starvation.
