Pakistan's new federal cabinet takes oath

ISLAMABAD, April 19 (Xinhua) -- A 37-member federal cabinet of newly-elected Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif took the oath during a ceremony held at the President House here on Tuesday.

Chairman of Pakistan's Senate Sadiq Sanjrani administered the oath to the cabinet members that include 31 federal ministers, three ministers of state and three advisers to the prime minister, according to a statement issued by the President House.

The new cabinet, made up of allied political parties, includes 13 federal ministers, two ministers of state and one adviser from the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz, while the Pakistan Peoples Party have nine federal ministers, one minister of state and one adviser to the prime minister.

Similarly, four members of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Fazal, two from Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan also took the oath as federal ministers.

The portfolios for the cabinet members are expected to be announced later, according to government officials.

The latest development came after the previous cabinet was dissolved following a no-confidence motion filed by an opposition alliance against ex-Prime Minister Imran Khan succeeded over a week ago.
