MEHTARLAM, May 20 (NNN-AGENCIES) – At least 12 Taliban militants were killed today, when the Afghan Air Force targeted their hideouts, in eastern Laghman province, the military confirmed.

“The airstrikes were conducted in Salo locality of Ali Shing district, at midday. Also, some amount of Taliban’s weapons were destroyed as a result of the strikes,” the army’s Selab 201 Corps said, in a statement.

The province has been the scene of heavy clashes between security forces and the Taliban militants in recent days.

The Taliban-led insurgency and counter-insurgency traditionally get momentum in spring and summer, commonly known as the fighting season in Afghanistan.

The militant group has yet to respond to the report.
