Kanpur: Happily describing the progress of his younger son's engagement, the 65-year-old Shafique Sahab began his stories of those past days when he used to create shields for going to the cinema hall.
As he remembers those youthful days, he felt no compunction in revealing how he along with his nephew approached to view a film at Capital Cinema Hall situated at city's famous Latouche Road, not too far from his Chamanganj residence.
He bought a ticket for enjoying the movie but returned home after the interval. Yet he did not waste the ticket. The validity of the half ticket made him send his nephew to watch the other half of the film.
He did not disclose the title of the film despite several assertions just for information.
When he was asked to let out of the year of enacting this kind of feat he gladly answered it was 48 years ago exactly in the year of 1972. Since then much water has flowed in the river Ganga.
The time has certainly changed now. The pace of the city turned out to be faster. Denizens now enjoy visiting malls and move in the comfortable temperature. The city is now preparing for metro rail.
That film hall did not exist today and more importantly, the present-day generation takes an interest in viewing films on the internet, he maintained adding that our days were different.
However, he appreciated that the younger generation still respects elders. Citing his son's example for an extreme liking of a tall life partner, he agreed to leave the condition only because of fatherly affection.
He has also shifted to Jajmau where his new house stands with all the grandeur.
It seems his eyes see every memory as if it were taking place at the moment he starts saying in detail. What appeals to the listener is that he continues with factual stories not concocted in any respect.
