Hyderabad, Sep 25 (PTI) In a suspected case of honour killing, a 28-year old man was allegedly abducted and murdered for marrying a woman belonging to a different caste, police said on Friday.
Nine people suspected to be involved in the case are in custody.
According to police, relatives of Avanthi Reddy 'forcibly' took her and her husband Hemanth, who got married against the wishes of her family about three months ago, on Thursday in a car.
While the girl managed to escape, Hemanth was taken away in the vehicle, they said.
The man's body was found in Sangareddy, on the outskirts of the city, in the wee hours of Friday.
"We received a complaint at around 6.30 PM from the boys father on Thursday and immediately we alerted all check posts and toll gates.
We have formed special parties as soon as we received a complaint," a police official said.
According to Avanthi, the police took her and her in-laws to Sangareddy to where the body of Hemanth was found, to identify the corpse.
"My cousins and uncle took me and my husband forcibly in a vehicle.. I managed to escape from the vehicle and immediately alerted my in-laws and police," she told reporters.
Avanthi said she and Hemanth were in love for the past several years and had tied the knot in June.
Earlier, parents of the couple were counselled by the police.
