India: Mall Road to turn smart soon

KANPUR: A huge amount for making smart roads has been earmarked for the city roads under the Smart City Plan. Mall road will be the first smart road with an expenditure of Rs 34.50 crore in the city. What is awaited is the finalisation of the tender in the first round. The work will begin after that vital procedure. 

The work will complete in three separate phases. About Rs 200 crore has been allocated for the first phase. Roads from Ganga Barrage to Jajmau, from Company Gardens to Bara Chauraha, from Sanigawan to Karrhi will be made fully smart.

Therefore a length of 109 Kms roads will be covered in the whole of the city areas. Cycle tracks, LED street electric poles, paved pavements, tree covers, Dustbins, Pollards, Signboards, Water ATMs, Ramps for handicapped people, Barriers and etc will be provided on the smart roads. Side by side greenery along the roads will also be arranged amply.

SK Sharma, municipal commissioner said that it is quite essential to make roads smart. A tender for 2.3 Kms of the road has been invited. The work will start sooner.
