30 Migrants Found Hidden In Train Wagons In Slovenia

LJUBLJANA, Slovenia, Mar 5 (NNN-STA) – Slovenian police discovered 30 migrants hidden in sealed wagons of a train.

The migrants included 12 children aged between five and fourteen, and a pregnant woman, police said. They said, they were from Iraq, Syria, Iran and Afghanistan.

The train, with 20 wagons loaded with clay, was travelling to Slovenia from Serbia, when police found the migrants, at the Dobova border-crossing with Croatia. Their destination was reportedly to be Italy, where the cargo train was destined.

Police said, the conditions in the sealed wagons were life-threatening, mostly due to the lack of oxygen. What is more, the clay on the surface had hardened, creating a dangerous crust.

Three people were provided with medical care, at a local hospital, following the search, it was reported.

Tens of thousands of migrants have been gathering at the Greece land border with Turkey, since last week, when Ankara announced that it will no longer prevent migrants from reaching Europe.

Slovenia is deploying 35 police officers, as part of a Frontex rapid border intervention team, sent to help Greece deal with an increased influx of migrants, according to Slovenian Interior Minister, Bostjan Poklukar.
