LA PAZ, Nov 24 (NNN-AGENCIES) — Bolivia is struggling to cope with forest fires, which have burned about 3 million hectares of forest land and killed more than 10 people since the beginning of the year.
Forest fires breaking out in Bolivia have caused many schools to temporarily close, while many flights were canceled due to smoke rising from the fires. From crops, vegetation, coffee plantations or banana plantations… all were severely damaged by the fires.
Police and firefighters had to mobilize many firefighting equipment and automatic fire suppression systems to control forest fires.
The government of President Luis Arce has called on the international community to help control forest fires and overcome the consequences. Venezuela, France, Chile and Brazil sent firefighters to Bolivia to help put out the fire.
Experts say that this year’s forest fire season in Bolivia is the worst in recent years after the forest fire season in 2019.
Bolivia is a South American country bordering Brazil and is also one of the countries with the area of tropical forests deforested in 2022 is among the highest in the world.
The area of deforestation last year increased by 32% compared to 2021, making Bolivia ranked third in the world in deforestation, behind only Brazil and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
