ISLAMABAD, Nov. 13 (Xinhua) -- One person was killed and 12 others were injured when an oil drilling company's convoy was attacked in Pakistan's northwest Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province on Monday, police said.
The incident happened in the Drazanda area of Dera Ismail Khan district, where a number of well-equipped militants ambushed the convoy, escorted by paramilitary troops Frontier Corps (FC), and fled the scene, Deputy Superintendent of Police in Drazanda Sher Ullah told Xinhua.
He said that last week, the same company's plant had been targeted in which two policemen were killed and three others injured, following which security was beefed up both within the compound and for the convoy.
"Despite these precautions, militants attacked the convoy as it traversed a road, launching the assault from the mountains at the foot of which the convoy was passing," he added.
The killed person was the drilling company's private guard, whereas the injured included two FC personnel and the company's staff who have been shifted to a nearby hospital, where three of the staff members are in critical condition, the officer added.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack yet.
The area was cordoned off by police, who also kicked off a search operation to capture the fleeing attackers.
