BEIJING, Aug 28 (NNN-PRENSA LATINA) — China and El Salvador strengthen collaboration in infrastructure construction and educational exchange while evaluating new opportunities for cooperation.
The ambassador of El Salvador, Aldo Álvarez, stressed in an interview with Prensa Latina the solid relationship and the good state of the political dialogues between the two countries, despite the short time of bilateral ties.
“China is participating in the construction of various infrastructure in our country as part of its non-reimbursable cooperation funds, including the modern National Library in the capital, which is nearly complete,” he said.
According to Álvarez, Beijing is also building a pier in the coastal zone of the department of La Libertad, with the works also nearing completion.
According to specialized reports, after the state visit to China in 2019 by the president of El Salvador, the two countries signed an agreement for non-reimbursable cooperation that contemplates 500 million dollars for the construction of a stadium in the coming months. There are also plans to build a water treatment plant near a lake in the eastern sector of the capital.
“We have a good educational exchange, with 300 students from our country currently on a scholarship program,” the ambassador went on to add, and explained that 50 percent of the careers are linked to the social sciences, while the other part are linked to engineering.
“Our interest is to increase the presence of students in technology and engineering studies; we also want to learn from China’s performance in terms of the digitization of the economy, a great step to boost trade,” he said.
The diplomat also highlighted that El Salvador is part of the member community of the Belt and Road Initiative, proposed by China, which represents an advantage when drawing up joint projects in terms of credit, interest rates, terms payment, among other things.
