Kanpur: Changing a political party is very common at present. It is this trend that compels the general public realize how selfish the politicians have .become. They gain benefit from politics, Other things are secondary for them. Though they seek our votes for becoming elected representatives they forget the voters after election.
If the politicians do not get the ticket for contesting election they immediately shift to another political party. A few leaders like Udit Raj, Ramcharitra Nishad, Ashok Kumar, Anshul Verma, Savitri Bai Phule, Baijvant Panda, Arjun Singh, Tom Vaddakan, Chandra Prakash Mishr, Kiriti Azad, Rakesh Sacchan, Sukhram, Shatrughan Sinha faced no compunction in changing party.
In the year 1952 there was no indication of party shifting. Politicians used to join politics for social service. Their dedication was vital.Opposition used to avoid fielding candidates if good candidate brimming with a feeling of service was contesting. The ruling party also wanted strong Opposition under the dome of democracy. Honesty and simplicity were the benchmark for a dedicated leader.
The change began to take place in the 1967 elections when the young voters were made to tilt towards one party. After 50 long years the situation has worsened. The candidates criticise one another on personal ground. They show little interest in talk of development and whatever promises are made by them never fulfil. They change the lines in manifesto so as to befool the humble voters.
The BJP promised of transfer of Rs 15 lakh but later said it was merely a jumla. The Congress is presently promising of NYAY. At the local level Sri Prskash Jaiswal is promising of minimizing traffic problems on the crowded roads in Kanpur. But he has not paid attention on the dilapidated roads around his residence in Jajmau area here. This is the irony voters realize.
