India: Kanpur DM clarifies alleged EVM tampering matter

Kanpur: Taking cognizance of the alleged EVM tampering matter, Kanpur Nagar DM issued a clarification.

He said, "On 1 March, two persons tried to enter the outer wall of the Bilhaur Strong room, who were caught by the CRPF personnel and handed over to the local police for questioning."

"The security incharge then wanted to check the footage from the CCTV operator, who was then present with the CRPF personnel to show him the footage," the DM said.

Authorities claimed that the screenshot of the incident was shared by the SP leader alleging someone entered the strongroom.

The local authorities claimed that no one entered the strong room and tampered with the EVM, and the complaint by the SP candidate is "false and baseless".

SP candidate Rachna Singh alleged EVM tampering in the strong room, claiming that a person was seen going inside the strong room again and again.

She alleged that an unknown person entered the room at night in collusion with the administration where the EVM of Bilhaur Vidhan Sabha was safely kept.

In her complaint, the Samajwadi Party candidate said that according to the guidelines of the Election Commission, even the DM is not allowed to go near the strongroom, adding that the Election Commission should take the matter seriously and take action.
