Kanpur: The Congress has fielded Sohail Akhtar Ansari from Kanpur Cantt seat in the upcoming UP assembly polls.
It is worthwhile to mention here that he had earned victory on the seat in the year 2017 for the Congress.
However, there was strong speculation that he would switch sides to the Samajwadi Party, which did not announce its candidate from the Kanpur Cantt constituency.
People confident to the politician reacted that he had kept the phone switched off.
He was making contact with his supporters in his constituency. After all public meeting remains a strong way to gain support.
There is suspicion and it was said to be not clear whether he would contest as a Congress candidate or a Samajwadi Party candidate in the ensuing elections.
The fact that Ansari got the Congress ticket shows that he enjoyed the trust of Priyanka Gandhi.
Yet, Ansari is supposedly not sure whether he can win the UP election as a Congress candidate, a source close to the MLA said.
