WASHINGTON, Nov. 25 (Xinhua) -- U.S. President Joe Biden's recent moves to lower energy prices is "undercutting his lofty goals on climate," The Washington Post has analyzed.
In an article published on Tuesday, the U.S. media outlet pointed out some of the contradictory moves of the Biden administration amid a dilemma between the near-term needs of the economy, the pressures of domestic politics and the longer-term emission target.
"He plans a release from the U.S. Strategic Petroleum Reserve that he has coordinated with China and other major energy consuming nations. He is also pushing the Federal Trade Commission to examine whether gas companies are charging too much and is leading a global effort to press oil-producing countries to ramp up production," the article said.
Those moves, along with a recent government auction of oil drilling rights in the Gulf of Mexico, are "prompting warnings from environmental advocates that Biden's push to lower energy prices is undercutting his lofty goals on climate, which he sees as a centerpiece of his legacy."
