 Kanpur Central

Kanpur: City side of Central station will be redeveloped. Substantiating this vital information, VP Sood, project manager, said that Kanpur Central redevelopment plan would equip with various facilities. The plan has been sent to the Railway Board.

About 80% of the development work will be done on the city side. The numbers of the  passengers entering the station remain more than the Cantt side. It also becomes a reason to consider redevelopment works on this spacious side.

Facilities like open waiting hall, escalator, LED announcement system and others will be provided. It has also been made clear that the historical building of the station will not be touched in the plan.

A plan to this effect has been sent to the Railway Board for approval. The total cost of Rs 250 Crore has been estimated on this work. The Indian Railways Station Development Corporation will do the work.

The new plan demarcates exit and entry point on the city side. Subways on Suttarkhana side will also be built.

The cost will be compensated by charging user charge from the passengers.

The work can be started in the coming year, as railways officers tell.

The open waiting room is designed on the model of Habibganj Railway station in Madhya Pradesh, as has been reported.
