TEHRAN, Sept 9 (NNN-IRNA) – Iran’s President, Hassan Rouhani, said that, Iran and Turkey, as two big regional powers, must expand their cooperation to defeat “foreign plots.”

Rouhani said, the only way to overcome “foreign plots” is further expanding relations between the two countries.

“Iran and Turkey are the two great powers in the region, and there have always been animosities and grudges against both countries, that still exist today,” Rouhani told his Turkish counterpart, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, at the 6th meeting of Turkey-Iran High-Level Cooperation Council, held via video-conference.

He praised the “very solid foundation” of the Iran-Turkey relations, based on good neighbourliness, common values, mutual respect and attention to “common interests, stability, security and peace in the region.”

The Iranian president also hailed the state of the Iran-Turkey border, as a “border of peace and friendship.”

Rouhani hoped that the meeting and the agreements that would be reached by the two countries, will be fruitful and constructive.

The 5th meeting of Turkey-Iran High-Level Cooperation Council was held in Ankara, Turkey in Dec, 2018.
