India: ANPR cameras active again on city's four crossings

Kanpur: So what is a fresh arrangement on habitual violators of the city's traffic regulations, you may ask? The automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) cameras are again made functional on at least four crossings under the integrated traffic system.

The crossings are Fazalganj, Parade, Naubasta and Goshala JK(I) respectively. It is on a trial basis as has been reported. A traffic violation can surely be observed.

These advanced cameras will catch the traffic violators quickly. Owing to defects in the traffic lights, these cameras had stopped functioning.

These cameras were set up at the city's crossings under Smart City programme but it remained only the showpiece since the traffic lights did not work in the absence of proper maintenance.

It will be apt to mention here that the KDA had installed traffic lights at as many as 68 crossings with a heavy cost of Rs 32 Crore. The cameras were also linked with these traffic lights.
