SEOUL, Nov. 21 (Xinhua) -- South Korea's presidential Blue House on Thursday held a National Security Council (NSC) meeting ahead of the termination on Nov. 23 of the General Security of Military Information Agreement (GSOMIA) with Japan.
The NSC meeting was convened by Chung Eui-yong, top security advisor for South Korean President Moon Jae-in, according to the Blue House.
The NSC standing committee members reviewed diplomatic efforts to resolve pending issues between South Korea and Japan, deciding to continue close consultations with relevant countries.
They also discussed measures to counter various situations related to the issues, the Blue House said.
The NSC meeting came ahead of the scheduled termination later this week of the GSOMIA, which South Korea and Japan signed in November 2016 to share military intelligence on nuclear and missile programs of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK).
South Korea decided in August to scrap the military accord in response to Japan's export curbs against the country in July.
Japan's export curbs came in an apparent protest against the South Korean top court's ruling that ordered some of Japanese firms to pay reparation to the South Korean victims who were forced into hard labor without pay during the 1910-45 Japanese colonization of the Korean Peninsula.
